Acreage work is priced differently, and should be.
A per-tree price makes sense for a suburban lot. For clearing a fence line, reclaiming a field or opening a driveway, what matters is volume, access and where the debris goes. We would rather walk the property with you and quote the whole scope than count stems. It usually comes out cheaper for you and it avoids the argument about what counted as a tree.
Pasture reclamation and what grows back.
Fields that have sat a few seasons come back in eastern red cedar, black locust, autumn olive and multiflora rose, in roughly that order of stubbornness. Cutting them is the easy part. If the stumps and root systems are left, locust in particular will sucker back aggressively and you will be doing this again in three years. Worth deciding up front whether you are clearing it once or clearing it properly.
Long driveways, storms and getting out.
Rural properties here lose access before they lose power. A single tree across a quarter-mile driveway means nobody gets in or out, and that is the call we prioritize after a storm alongside trees on houses. If your drive runs under mature canopy, the cheap version of this problem is a clearance pruning pass before winter rather than an emergency call during it.
County rules differ from the city
Botetourt's requirements for clearing, erosion control and setbacks are not the same as Roanoke's, and agricultural parcels are treated differently again. For anything larger than a few trees, confirm with the county before we start -- we will tell you what we have run into on similar jobs, but the permit is the landowner's.
