Tree service in Salem, Virginia
Salem is half our work. We keep a second location on Frey Street, and the mix here runs a little different from the city -- bigger lots, more room to work, and a lot of mature hardwood worth keeping rather than removing.

More room usually means a cheaper job.
Where a Roanoke city tree has to come out in twenty pieces on a rope, a lot of Salem properties have enough open ground that we can rig in bigger sections or bring a lift right to the trunk. That is fewer hours, and the quote reflects it. It is worth mentioning your yard layout when you call, because access is the single biggest swing factor in what a removal costs.
The Fort Lewis and Roanoke College sides.
Properties running up toward Fort Lewis Mountain get wind loading that flatter neighborhoods do not, and we see more whole-tree failure and topped-out pines on those slopes. Closer in, the older streets around Roanoke College and Lake Spring Park have the same mature canopy as Roanoke's historic neighborhoods -- big oaks and poplars over century-old houses, and the same need to rig rather than fell.
Storm work along the river.
The lower ground toward the Roanoke River saturates in heavy rain, and saturated soil is how otherwise healthy trees end up leaning or laid over. If a tree in your yard has started leaning after a wet stretch, look at the ground on the high side of the lean -- cracked or heaved soil means the root plate is going, and that tree is not going to right itself.

Salem — questions
01Are you actually local to Salem or just driving over?+
Both, honestly -- the shop address is in Roanoke and we keep a second location at 536 Frey St in Salem. Salem is roughly half of what we do.
02Can you get a lift into my back yard?+
Often yes in Salem, where side yards and gates tend to be wider. Send a photo of the gate opening and the path from the street and we will tell you before we quote.
03My tree started leaning after all the rain. Should I worry?+
Look at the soil on the opposite side of the lean. If it is cracked, heaved or lifting, the root plate has failed and the tree needs to come down. A long-standing lean with flat, undisturbed ground around the trunk is usually fine.
