If a line is down or a tree is touching a power line, treat it as live, keep everyone back, and call AEP first -- not a tree service. If the tree is on the house and the structure is compromised, get out and call the fire department. Once nothing is energized and nobody is under it, that is when we come cut.
Storm wood is under tension, and it does not behave.
A limb bent under load stores an enormous amount of energy, and cutting it in the wrong place releases all of that at once. Split trunks and hung-up trees are worse -- they can drop or barber-chair without warning. This is the single most common way homeowners get badly hurt after a storm, and it is why the first cut matters more than the chainsaw making it.

Do not go under a hung-up tree or a loaded limb to look, and do not let anyone climb on it.

What drives the price
Anyone who quotes a tree over the phone without seeing it is guessing, and the guess runs high to protect them. Here is what actually moves the number, so you can judge any quote you get — including ours.
Size and species
A 90-foot oak is a different job from a 30-foot dogwood. Height, trunk diameter and wood density all drive the hours.
Access
If we can get a lift to the trunk, the job goes faster and costs less. A tree behind a fence in a back yard has to come out piece by piece on ropes.
What is underneath
A tree over open lawn can be felled. A tree over your roof, deck, pool or the neighbor's fence has to be rigged down in controlled sections.
Utilities
Anything near primary power lines takes extra setup, extra care and sometimes a call to the utility first.
Cleanup level
Haul everything away, leave the wood cut for your stove, or chip the brush and leave the chips -- your call, and it changes the number.
Stump
Grinding the stump is priced separately from the removal, so you can add it or skip it.

01Will my homeowners insurance cover this?+
Often yes when a tree hits a structure -- house, garage, fence, sometimes a vehicle under comprehensive auto coverage. A tree that falls in your yard and hits nothing frequently is not covered. Policies vary a lot, so call your agent, and use our photos and itemized invoice when you file.
02My neighbor's tree fell on my property. Who pays?+
In most cases it goes through your own policy, regardless of whose yard it grew in -- unless the tree was visibly dead or hazardous and the neighbor had been notified in writing beforehand. That written notice is why it is worth putting a hazard concern in an email rather than mentioning it over the fence.
03How fast can you get here after a storm?+
Honestly: after a valley-wide event, every tree company here is triaging, and anyone who promises you two hours is guessing. We prioritize trees on structures and blocked access, and we will give you a straight estimate of when we can be there rather than a comfortable one.
